The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) is expanding its efforts to combat underage gambling, launching a targeted sensitization campaign across schools in Nakasongola District. The initiative includes high-level stakeholder engagement and widespread educational outreach directly to students.
Senior Responsible Gaming Officer Ms. Hope Susan recently met with Nakasongola District Education Officer (DEO) Mr. Sam Mbagire to solidify collaboration. Discussions centered on the NLGRB’s mandate to shield the public, particularly minors, from gambling-related harm through awareness initiatives.
“I applaud the government for establishing this regulatory body,” stated Mr. Mbagire, “Its work is vital in protecting vulnerable individuals, including our students.”

Direct Outreach to Thousands of Students
Following the strategic meeting, the NLGRB’s Responsible Gaming Team conducted intensive school visits:
- Schools Reached: St. Joseph’s Vocational Secondary School, Nakasongola Senior Secondary School, Nakasongola Army School, and Kakooge Senior Secondary School.
- Scale: Over 4,000 students and teachers participated in awareness sessions focusing on the dangers of underage gambling.
- Materials Distributed: Branded educational items, including T-shirts and posters featuring anti-underage gambling messages, were provided to the schools.
- Long-Term Reminders: The Board installed permanent informational signposts within school compounds to reinforce the campaign’s message and foster “a constant mindset shift” among students.
The campaign underscores the NLGRB’s proactive approach to curbing youth access to gambling activities. By partnering with educational authorities and engaging directly with students, the Board aims to embed awareness of gambling risks within school communities. Officials indicate this district-level initiative serves as a model for potential nationwide expansion.
